The Spanking Tree

There’s an evergreen pine

Between the bush and the sign

There on the edge of the grass

It stands on the walk

Of that neighborhood block

Spanking the people that pass

Very quietly,

 Quickly and sly

It reaches out

As they go walking by

To give them a hardy spank

They don’t see it come,

            Or where it comes from

This mysterious, devious prank

The spanking tree spanks everyone

Folks that walk,

Folks that run

Happy kids,

 Grumpy men

Folks on their way

To work for the day

On their way back, It spanks them then

The spanking tree

Spanks boys and girls

Cats, dogs, raccoons and squirrels

It even spanks the passing bugs

Then one morning

Wasn’t the same

Nobody passed, nobody came

That same morning down the street

The aspen tree, started giving out hugs
